Up until six years ago, Ingrid and her family lived in a crowded home with her mother-in-law in Nicaragua. Both Ingrid and her husband worked in a sweatshop trying to earn enough to support their family and feed their children. This story is common throughout the developing world. Cycles of poverty and dominance dictate the future and opportunities for individuals, families, and communities.
Opportunity International Canada currently serves 4.7 million clients by providing opportunities for microfinancing, a sustainable means of poverty alleviation leading to lasting, holistic development. Financial tools and training empower entrepreneurs to build businesses, support their families and transform their communities. What is most astounding is that 99% of these loans are paid back, providing new opportunities for entrepreneurs to change the picture of the future.
We are excited to be donating 50% of our profit throughout the Spring of 2019 to this organisation. Every product you purchase from us includes a card, introducing Ingrid, and connecting you to the work that Opportunity International Canada is doing. Check out their website here: www.opportunityinternationalcanada.ca.

HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN YEMEN

"The people of Yemen are being subjected to deprivation, disease and death as the world watches. Crisis is not coming, it is not looming, it is here today -- on our watch" (Time Magazine, May 30, 2017). The U.N. estimates that 18.8 million people -- almost two thirds of the population -- are in need of humanitarian assistance in Yemen. The Canadian government is currently matching donations made to registered charities in order to address what is being described as the worst humanitarian aid crisis in decades. We were able to play a very small role in meeting the incredible needs of this country through profits made from The Fifty Fifty Workshop products. Thanks for your continued support of our product and the values we hold!

UNION GOSPEL MISSION

Union Gospel Mission is "determined to transform communities by overcoming poverty, homelessness, and addiction one life at a time". This is achieved through life recovery programs, meals, shelter and outreach services, education and job preparation, affordable housing, and preventative programs. Gifts of Hope, Union Gospel Mission's Christmas Hamper Program, seeks to alleviate some of the stresses of Christmas by giving lower mainland families the opportunity to engage in some of the excitement of the Christmas season. Hampers include holiday treats, food basics, and individualised gifts for family members based on requests, hobbies and interests. Christmas is one of our favourite times of year and as we prepared for our own family Christmas, we were reminded of the many gifts and extravagances we have. We are continually grateful for your investment in our products and the ways in which this investment allows us to give back to others. We had the pleasure of joining with a number of other families to fund a hamper for a twelve person family through UGM this year.
International Justice mission

"Rescue thousands. Protect millions. Prove that justice for the poor is possible."
The vision of IJM is founded on the principle that every person deserves to be safe. For nearly 20 years, they have fought on the front lines of some of the worst violence in Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Their intent is to rescue victims of violence, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors, and strengthen justice systems. Today, more than 40 million people are in slavery. And sometimes, in an attempt to self-protect, we dehumanize the reality of what is happening across the world (and within our own country), holding our own families close and while sympathetic, dismissing the overwhelming tragedies that are taking place for children and adults around the world. Today, we are seeking to stop our own ignorance. To dig in. To be aware. To engage with real life issues and claim other lives as connected to ours, as valuable. To be the voice for those who have been and are being silenced.
